I am honored and humbled to share with you one of the previous projects which allowed showcasing me and my team’s photography services, not only to the Philippines but to the world.
This all started a couple of weeks ago when a travel agency inquired and tapped me to document a two-day BOAO Economic Forum 2019 which was held at Shangri-La Hotel in Bonifacio Global City last April 22 and 23.
The very first thing I’d ask when a prospective client inquiry is a kind of event to be covered and the allocated budget for the coverage. From there, I can see the perspective of what the event is and what is needed. Upon my pre-assessment, I have already determined the team’s task: Documentation.
After some small talks, assessment of what the event is about, the expectations of the client, the theme of the event and the allocated budget for the coverage, we closed a deal. After that, the days of pre-production followed.
We went through days of planning for the camera shot listings, a series of talks with the client and preparation for all the equipment needed. I also have to ensure that all the equipment is high-end to ensure premium quality photos.
We also had a media counterpart from China. So, aside from my team, the Chinese team will also provide materials. Before the program had started, we had a few reviews and final positionings.
However, unexpectedly, on the first day of the actual event, everyone was welcomed by an earthquake. I was a little nervous as I saw how the chandeliers move back and forth. After a few whiles, the quake has subsided, and the event continued.
There was an allocated room for media partners which serves as a leeway for us to work for our own creativity and effectively actualize our plans during the pre-production. With the provisions and ample freedom given, everything just naturally ran smoothly during the event.
After, the client approach and told us that our professional photography service was excellent and that our outputs were great, too. With that, my team and I are beyond grateful for the opportunity. At the end of the day, we can genuinely say that our efforts had paid off.
The BOAO economic forum was primarily established to strengthen the economic ties of Asia to the world. Fortunately, it ended successfully and fruitfully. It was participated by the delegates coming from the Philippines and China.
Chinese and Filipino ambassadors, investors, business stakeholders, and government officials were present. Among them are House Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and Bongbong Marcos. President Rodrigo was also expected to arrive but was not able to attend due to several reasons.
When doing an event photography project, always tell your team to remember these 4 Golden rules;
1. to have the presence of mind, 2. to be professional, 3. to work with humility, and 4. to do their best above all.
Furthermore, make sure that the expectations of both parties are conveyed clearly so that the client will know what to expect and vice versa.
BOAO Economic Forum and My Professional Photography Services
The annual BOAO Economic Forum 2019 was a huge opportunity for me and my team’s professional photography services. It was also a reminder for me that indeed, mastering the skill of professional photography is vital as it will be an edge especially in my photography venture and bigger corporate events like this.
Events like this also allow establishing networks with other productions locally and internationally, too. This was the first time that the country hosted the event. With this, I am beyond grateful to be chosen as one of the photographers among the productions who wished to get the project.
